Record-Breaking Half-Year Visitation to the Palm Beaches

Discover The Palm Beaches (DTPB) announced The Palm Beaches experienced record-breaking half-year visitation and July hotel occupancy, according to STR. The destination had 3.9 million visitors for the first half of 2016 (January through June), which is a four percent increase over the same time period in 2015. Hotel occupancy for the month of July was also at an all-time high, with 71.9 percent occupancy.

“This is the first time we’ve ever had a July hotel occupancy above 70 percent during July, since we began tracking data with STR,” said Jorge Pesquera, president and CEO for DTPB. “Since we will soon have more hotel rooms available than ever before, it makes the occupancy statistic even more impressive.”

Palm Beach County is on pace for record-breaking visitation for the calendar year of 2016, with an anticipated 7.2 million visitors by the end of 2016. The Palm Beaches is expected to surpass its record hotel room supply, up four percent over this time last year, and nine percent more room nights were sold. The growth in number of hotel room nights sold compared to last year ranks second in the entire state of Florida.

“Visitors continue to discover why The Palm Beaches are the best way to experience Florida,” said Pesquera. “Discover The Palm Beaches continues to promote marketing messages and content that touts the number of ‘best in class’ experiences offered by our large and diverse destination.”

“Best in class hotels, beaches, golf, culture, fishing, diving, nature, dining and equestrian events are just some of the amazing attributes available in our 2500 square miles. It’s no wonder more people are looking to discover the destination,” concluded Pesquera.

In 2015, a record-breaking 6.9 million visitors traveled to The Palm Beaches.
