The unique and lively area of Northwood Village, located just north of Downtown West Palm Beach, will join the excitement of the CANVAS Outdoor Museum Show with a local showdown of its own on Friday, November 13, 2015 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on 25th Street, across from the ArtHouse429 Gallery in West Palm Beach. Seven local artists have been selected by Northwood Village to paint outdoor murals on seven garage doors of an active warehouse as part of Canvas WPB in Northwood Village. CANVAS is a two-week outdoor museum experience running November 8-22, 2015 throughout Downtown West Palm Beach. The community is encouraged to attend the free Local Showdown and enjoy an evening filled with music, art, food, guided mural and sculpture tours and dance performances, with a cocktail reception at the adjacent ArtHouse429 Gallery.

The murals will be completed during the event and attendees will be able to cast their vote for their favorite mural on the CANVAS Art App through November 21, 2015. The winner of the CANVAS Local Showdown will be announced at the CANVAS Closing Brunch event on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at the CANVAS VIP Lounge located at 501 Fern St. and will receive a coveted position on the official lineup for CANVAS 2016.

The selected artists will create seven monochromatic murals that express their unique styles as well as beautify a vacant property in the heart of Northwood Village. Participating artists include: Amanda Valdes, a Miami native with a popular macabre style, Eduardo Mendieta, whose work can be seen throughout Downtown West Palm Beach, Amauri Torezan, an abstract artist, Diana Contreras, whose style depicts femininity set in whimsical portraiture, Mark Rupprecht, a graffiti artist since he was just 14 years old, Jay Bellicchi, a creator of abstract reflections and Paul Hughes, a local artist who also contributed to the Evernia Garage staircase murals.

“We are proud to be involved with such a creative and artistic event that not only highlights the talented artists in our own backyard, but also displays the unique qualities of the historic Northwood Village,” said Jon Ward, West Palm Beach Community Redevelopment Agency Executive Director. “Our goal is to promote the local business landscape with what sets us apart and this event shines a spotlight on Northwood Village as a vibrant arts destination.”

In addition to the live painting event, attendees will have the opportunity to attend a free guided tour of the notable murals and sculptures surrounding Northwood Village throughout the evening. Tours are available at 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and will begin at 432 25th Street. Space is limited to 20 participants per tour and registration is required. To book the tour, visit
