I’m not sure whether it’s the fresh and flavorful Neapolitan pizzas (I’m partial to those perfectly crispy oven-fired pies), the enchanting atmosphere (where else in West Palm Beach can you find a live tree in the middle of a restaurant?), or the super-affordable prices that got me, but whatever it is, I’m all in now. I recently had a chance to dine at MidiCi, the latest restaurant to open its doors on Clematis Street, and I have nothing but positive things to say about the stylish new addition.
MidiCi West Palm Beach is designed to bring friends together. Like most great restaurants, MidiCi’s debut introduced a work in progress. If you visited the restaurant when they first opened, you would have encountered an entirely different experience from what awaits you there today. The initially introduced “fast casual” dining concept, which encourages customers to mingle in a more communal setting, now offers full table service instead at its Clematis location. There are waiters greeting patrons when they arrive, cloth napkins, and the sort of elevated experience diners expect in a restaurant so beautifully adorned.
The restaurant has more than 70 seats inside and 10 tables outside and also features a large black olive tree adorning the center of the venue. While it makes for a beautiful statement piece, the tree carries a meaning that goes much deeper than mere looks. According to the placard, “[Trees] provide a great sense of escape from the humdrum and make us more in tune with our surroundings and the people around us. Naturally, it brings friends together.”
And MidiCi West Palm Beach is just that; a perfect place to gather with those you love.
MidiCi somehow manages to balance both modern conveniences and a charming traditional touch simultaneously. Brassy light fixtures draw the eye upward while pizzas are baked in a pair of wood-fired ovens that reach 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. The ovens, hand-crafted with sparkling gold tiles, figure prominently as the centerpieces of the open kitchen.
The food at MidiCi is quite different from what we’ve come to expect at other Italian eateries on Clematis Street. You can choose from a creative selection of pizzas or create your own. And soon, traditional Italian items like calzones, paninis, soups, salads, and more will appear on the menu. Understandably, the house-made Angus beef meatballs—served in a zesty marinara sauce with mozzarella—are a best-selling appetizer. They are served with a stack of wood-fired toasted Neapolitan bread slices drizzled with balsamic and olive oil.
MidiCi’s pizzas are large enough to split between two people. Opt for a classic Neapolitan flavor profile with house pesto or white pizza (sans tomato sauce), or opt for a specialty pizza featuring more elaborate combinations. MidiCi’s dough is thin, soft, and chewy, making for the perfect pie. It is made from non-GMO double-zero Neapolitan flour, water, sea salt, and yeast.
Neapolitan-style pizza, hand-made with a perfect crust and fresh ingredients, lies at the heart of MidiCi’s menu. The Margherita pizza and Doppio Pepperoni pizza that my husband and I tried were superb, and the Burrata appetizer with cantaloupe and prosciutto was also a great selection.
Though MidiCi serves a decent selection of beers and wines, I opted for an Aperol Spritz—a bright orange classic Italian aperitif that’s low in alcohol and slightly bitter. It was tasty, refreshing, and paired perfectly with my food.
MidiCi is easily one of the most well priced restaurants on Clematis, especially if you consider the quality of the ingredients and the overall dining experience. Best of all, they offer great specials during the week; for example, on Wednesdays, patrons can order a cheese board with a bottle of wine for under $20. MidiCi also has one of the best happy hour deals I’ve seen on Clematis—or anywhere in West Palm Beach, for that matter.
The atmosphere in the restaurant sends a clear message about the importance MidiCi places on people—and gathering them together over fine wine and great food. If you love pizza, spending time with loved ones, and flavorful, high-quality ingredients, MidiCi in West Palm Beach delivers.
