Rolando Barrero: painter, performance artist, activist

Rolando Chang Barrero has been recognized as one of the nine most intriguing persons in the regional arts, one of the top green trailblazers, and has received a Congressional Letter of Commendation for his contributions to the advancement of the arts.

Rolando Chang Barrero is a painter, performance artist, activist, and arts advocate based in West Palm Beach. A professed insomniac, Barrero is always working triple overtime to keep all his projects going.

His art focuses on faces with bright strokes of color and wide open, if sometimes uneven, eyes. Symbols of paper folded hats and boats and birds and burning hearts with crowns flit about in the cosmos around the heads.

He is a thinker and his insomniac mind always running with thoughts of the next show at his gallery (The Box Gallery) or the next space, next universe to conquer, so it makes sense that this is what he paints. It’s all about the community.

Rolando Chang Barrero has been recognized as one of the nine most intriguing persons in the regional arts, one of the top green trailblazers, and has received a Congressional Letter of Commendation for his contributions to the advancement of the arts.

Pajaro Paradise is a series of painting by Barrero that include mid-century modern inspired credenzas, the Sparkling Pajaro Series–Acrylic on canvas 8″ x 10″–Pajaro Printed Men’s Woven Short Sleeve Shirts, and 36″ x 48″ Acrylic on Canvas among others paintings from Barrero’s signature Pajaro (bird) collection of South Florida’s top 20 endangered birds.
