Travel Rally Day for the Annual National Travel & Tourism Week

As the tourism industry gathers to promote its $7.1 billion economic impact and 66,000 jobs in The Palm Beaches, the Travel Rally Day celebration spotlights top industry and faces of tourism in the country.

Discover The Palm Beaches (DTPB), the official tourism marketing corporation for Palm Beach County, today hosted more than 150 industry representatives from the travel and tourism community to celebrate Travel Rally Day at the Lake Worth Casino Building & Beach Complex. At this year’s event, Lion Country Safari was awarded with the 26th annual Providencia Award, and the first-ever Discover The Palm Beaches Partner Awards recognized PGA National Resort & Spa in the accommodations category, as well as Kirkland Event & Destination Services in the non-accommodations category.

Travel Rally Day culminated the 34th annual National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), America’s annual salute to travel and tourism. NTTW serves to champion the power of the tourism industry. This year, the U.S. Travel Association’s theme was “The Faces of Tourism,” which brought attention to the employees at all levels who make travel a success.

The Providencia Award is given annually by DTPB to a local business, organization or individual who has demonstrated an extraordinary contribution to the vitality and prosperity of The Palm Beaches as a desirable tourist destination. The winners are chosen by popular vote from the public.

Jorge Pesquera praised the work of the finalists, which included Boca Raton Resort & Club, The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts and Lion Country Safari. “These three finalists are outstanding examples of the world-class tourism assets that make The Palm Beaches such a desirable tourism destination; a legendary resort, a first class performing arts center and one of the most unique animal attractions anywhere in the country,” he said.

“Lion Country Safari is a deserving partner that helps us showcase why we are ‘the best way to experience Florida’,” Pesquera added. “We continue to attract a record-breaking number of visitors, thanks in strong part to entities such as this one. We’re proud to honor Lion Country Safari for their tourism contribution to The Palm Beaches.”

Another means to reaffirm and celebrate the destination’s hospitality community was through DTPB’s new Partner of the Year Awards. These awards were designed to recognize tourism organizations within the accommodation and non-accommodation categories, whose commendable efforts help DTPB achieve its mission, vision and brand promise by implementing innovative marketing programs and participation in destination programs.

Nominees in the accommodations category included Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa, Hilton Palm Beach Airport, PGA National Resort & Spa, The Breakers Palm Beach, The Chesterfield and West Palm Beach Marriott. Nominees in the non-accommodations category included Alpha Transportation, Kirkland Event & Destination Services, Kolter Hospitality, Loggerhead Marinelife Center and Visit Palm Beach.

Following the ceremony, attendees took to the beach for DTPB’s second annual beach cleanup. The number one reason why tourists come to Palm Beach County is to visit the beach, so preserving the 47 miles of the area’s coastline is of utmost importance.

The record-high 7.35 million visitors to The Palm Beaches in 2016 generated a $7.1 billion economic impact in the community. As one of the top industries in Palm Beach County, tourism supports more than 66,000 jobs in The Palm Beaches.
