For our anniversary dinner this year, my wife and I ventured beyond our usual haunts—and discovered a gem. Tucked into the heart of Delray Beach, Gabriella’s Modern Italian is making an impressive mark on South Florida’s culinary landscape with its handcrafted pasta, artisan cocktails, and an atmosphere that seamlessly blends classic Italian warmth with contemporary sophistication.

Located just a block north of Atlantic Avenue at 40 NE 7th Ave, Gabriella’s occupies a prime spot in a stylish new mixed-use development. The restaurant thoughtfully addresses Delray’s notorious parking challenges with valet service, including a generous $10 discount for diners—an early indication of their attention to detail.

We were seated on the patio terrace, which captured a chic New York-meets-Florida vibe perfect for dining under the stars. Inside, the space exudes elegance with dimmed lighting and sleek furnishings, but also pulses with an energetic atmosphere that elevates it beyond just a restaurant. On weekends like our Saturday visit, Gabriella’s transforms into something more vibrant—an upscale lounge where fine Italian dining meets sophisticated nightlife.

Cocktails & Cuisine

Our evening began with signature cocktails that set a celebratory tone. My Amalfi Spritz—a bright combination of Aperol, Caravella limoncello, and prosecco—delivered a refreshing nod to the Italian coast. My wife’s Mia Margarita blended Tequila Ocho Blanco with passionfruit and agave, finished with a tajín rim that added a perfect savory contrast to its sweet-tangy profile.

The appetizers showcased the kitchen’s finesse. Smoked Burrata arrived nestled alongside marinated red beets, with pistachio-basil pesto and aged balsamic creating a harmonious balance of creamy, earthy, and bright flavors.

The Frankie Famous meatballs—juicy and perfectly seasoned—came with a zingy red wine vinaigrette that elevated this classic dish. Our server revealed that “Frankie” is actually the owner, an Italian food enthusiast from New Jersey with several successful restaurants. A bit of Instagram sleuthing later showed us photos of rapper 50 Cent attending their grand opening—clearly, Gabriella’s knows how to make an entrance.

For our main courses, the delicately prepared Branzino arrived with broccolini, roasted cashews, and a citrus-caviar beurre blanc that added luxurious complexity without overwhelming the fish. My wife’s gnocchi—pillowy clouds dressed with basil pesto, toasted pine nuts, and pecorino—prompted us to trade bites throughout the meal. Each dish gave us thoughtful layering of flavors, achieving that elusive balance between richness and freshness.

Dessert transformed into theater when our server presented their house-made tiramisu, constructed tableside with freshly whipped cream, melted coffee-infused sugar, and delicate pastry. The visual presentation rivaled the taste, sending my wife into dessert euphoria. I opted for their classic gelato and sorbet—a seemingly simple choice that undoubtedly was excellent.

The Experience

What distinguished our evening was the pacing—unhurried yet attentive service created natural pauses between courses for conversation and savoring each bite. Gabriella’s isn’t designed for quick dining; it’s crafted for lingering. That relaxed rhythm stayed with us as we strolled down Atlantic Avenue afterward, already enthusiastically recommending our discovery to some friends from West Palm Beach we encountered.

Gabriella’s Modern Italian delivers more than exceptional food—it creates a complete sensory experience. The restaurant manages to be sophisticated without pretension, vibrant without overwhelming, and every bit as remarkable as its growing reputation suggests.

Pro tip: Make a reservation, especially for weekend dining. Dress to impress, and arrive hungry—you’ll want to sample broadly across their menu.
